Brackens new fight
Ok we now enter a new phase in Brackens life, it seems she has successfully fought bone cancer, something very rarely done, but she has somehow managed it.

Sadly though, we now have another problem, two weeks ago I found a couple of lumps on her, my guess was they were fatty lumps but to be sure we went to the oncologist, she needle aspirated them and yes they were fatty lumps, whilst we were there we asked her to look at Brackens eye as it has been weeping, our vet at home gave us some eyedrops for it.   HMMMM eye drops are not good for this it is a big tumor on her eye, so we booked bracken in for the Thursday to have the tumor removed and send away for testing.

The operation went fine and she came home, she seemed happy and ate her dinner with gusto, then a couple of hours later, there was blood everywhere, coming out of her mouth and bottom, the room looked like someone had been stabbed to death, there was blood up the units in the kitchen pools on the floor, so poor bracken was bundled back into the car and a two hour drive to the oncologist who came out to meet us as it was late evening now, 7 injections later we made the journey back to my sisters, who later told us she was suprised to see bracken back again, with so much blood they thought this was her end, oh how they under estimated my brave girl, bracken had enteritis and a violent bout at that, but slowly during the next three days she recovered, then horrors of horrors I found a new lump that was not there before, it definately was a new lump, I am a bit paranoid about lumps so I know it was new, we rushed back to the oncologist, who did not like the look of it, she took a needle aspiration and arranged to take the lump off the next tuesday, giving Bracken a few days to get her strength back before she has to face her second cancer operation withing 10 days!!!!!

The results from the needle aspiration came back, not good news, Bracken has Mast cell cancer now, seems so unfair she fight and wins against bone cancer then gets a totally different cancer.   Tuesday came and Bracken had the mast cell cancer tumor removed, we were lucky we were able to get wide clean margins on the tumor, which has now been sent away for testing, depending on the results we will then decide our next course of action, though the oncologist is hopeful that as we got such clean margins, and we caught it so early maybe we will not have to do any more treatment, but if need me we can do radiation, and   or preds.

Bracken came through the second operation with flying colours, she came home, no more enteritis this time, she ate her dinner and is absolutely fine, we are now back home on the island, she has had a nice walk today though keeping her out of the muddy puddles was hard!! she is acting like nothing is wrong at all in her life and she is as happy as larry, she is one strong fighter.

This is her in her teeshirt (covers the stitches)
We have now been back to the oncologist, the news is good we did get clean margins all round the tumor, the grade was intermediate (2) the oncologist is hopeful no more treatment will be needed

my brave girl has now had bone cancer, eye cancer and mast cell cancer, yet she has always been happy throughout all this and has taken everything in her stride,   she is my miracle and truely special dog!!!!
